SK 4 Rod Review

Found time to do a proper review of the Sonik, finally!

The Specs:
Length ft (m): 14' (4.27)
Rating (oz)   : 5 - 7 oz
Sections       : 2
Colour          : Gloss Black

Rod came with genuine Fuji BMNAG guides and a sliding locking reel seat.

I had the pleasure to discuss this particular rod at length with Australian surfcaster Scott Selby before trying it out. I have the rod for a more than a month now. So far this is my take:

Likes:
1. The reflective tip portion for night fishing.
2. Impressive build.
3. Balanced feel for both high and low reel mount.

Fuji BMNAG guides, looks real good.

Close up of the reflective tape. Certainly useful for fishing at night.

Casting:

Found it to load easily to the mid and then charges into a steely butt.
The recovery of the rod if amazingly quick.

Later when i had the opportunity to meet Scott in Sydney, i was coached to cast better with the SK4, the way Scott does his casting. After some minor adjustment to reel placement, found the rod to feel very nice to cast. Scott casted the same rod well over 200 mtrs and personally i did a few beyond that.

Personally note:
Didn't like the sliding reel seat at 26mm.
Without reel seat = better grip.

SK4SR020 sk4 SEA ROD 14' 5-7oz
Designed to become the number one choice for the serious shore angler in the UK, this rod has an incredible power to weight ratio. Also with a casting action that suits both overhead and pendulum casting styles, the extra length gives better control and leverage needed to bring big fish through heavy ground. Also rung with Fuji guides for use with a multiplier reel, the top end specification and sheer build quality of these rods represents incredible value for money.

Multiplier or fixed spool?
With the exception of the SK3SR020 13’ 4-6oz F/S and SK4SR030 sk4 SEA ROD 16' 4-6oz F/S rods, all our rods are rung for use with a multiplier reel. Please note - this does not mean you cannot use a fixed spool reel with them, in fact they will work perfectly fine, it’s just that the ring size and configuration is ideally suited to fishing with a multiplier reel. The reduction in distance when casting with a fixed spool reel on a rod which is rung for multiplier use is nominal, so feel free to use either type of reel on our rods.

Proper Review to follow
